Current Employment
Since October 2007, I have been employed
by Yahoo! Inc as a "Technical Yahoo!" in
the Yahoo! Search Marketing
group. My team works on the Ad Optimization systems including advertiser bid
optimization and keyword research.
Previous Employment
Citysearch
From January 2003 until October 2007, I was employed by
Citysearch as a software engineer,
eventually leading becoming part of the Platform Services team and then leading
an "Architecture and Standards" team for a short time.
Standard Media
From February 1997 through June 2002, I worked as a programmer/administrator
for Standard Media. It was fun while it lasted, but the time
came for Jessica and I to move away from the Bay Area.
Here's some of the stuff in which I had a hand or two:
- FAT ONLINE- Fat Wreck
Chords, a Bay Area record label that sells pop-punk records to
14-year-old boys.
- Alternative Tentacles
Records- yet another Bay Area label that carries the old Dead
Kennedys stuff along with a huge variety of other stuff, including a
bit of Negativland and spoken
word by Noam
Chomsky and Mumia Abu Jamal.
- 11345 Records- independent record label
and distributor. Releases punk, etc. records and distributes a wide variety of
punk and "nerd rock" records and merchandise (check out the killer Devo
hairpieces and flower-pot hats).
- Amoeba Records- independent
record store that carries almost everything under the sun. Originally a Bay
Area thing, with stores in Berkeley and San Francisco, they recently opened a
new store in Hollywood (widely believed to be one of the best in the area, only
a short while after opening).
- Mordam Records- Mordam
is the exclusive distributor for over 30 independent record labels and
magazines. in addition to having their entire catalog of 3000 or so
"indie" artists available for mail order online, they also have most of
the CD portion of their catalog digitized and available for purchase
via digital download in MP3 format (with possibly more formats to come
later).
- Cinder Block- vendors
of fine punk rock apparel, including the revered Op Ivy hooded
sweatshirt.
- Lookout! Records-
another Bay Area label that carries the old Operation Ivy stuff along
with other more-or-less mainstream punk/ska/etc. stuff.
- TKO Records
About the Title of This Page
The quotation used as the title of this page "One machine can do the
work of fifty ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary
man." is attributed to Elbert
Hubbard (1856-1915). I haven't been able to find a reference as to where it
was first published.
